These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of cognates.app ("cognates.app", "we", "us", or "our"), a translation service operated by hafnarr. By using our website or purchasing Premium, you agree to these Terms.

Service Description

cognates.app lets you translate words or text into multiple languages at once. The service uses artificial intelligence and may produce inaccurate translations. You should not rely on translations for legal, medical, financial, or other critical purposes.

Accounts

You may sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to your sign-in secure. You must provide accurate information and not misuse the service.

Free and Premium Plans

We offer a free plan and a paid Premium subscription.

Free accounts:

• May select a limited number of languages
• Have a limited number of characters per translation
• Are subject to daily limits on AI translation requests

Premium accounts include:

• More characters per translation
• Unlimited language selection
• No daily AI request limit

Current limits and pricing are shown on the website and at checkout. We may change free or Premium features with reasonable notice where required.

Payments

Premium subscriptions are processed by Paddle, our payment provider. By subscribing, you also agree to Paddle's applicable terms and checkout terms. Subscription billing, renewals, cancellations, and payment method updates are handled through Paddle.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes
• Attempt to bypass rate limits, security, or access controls
• Scrape, overload, or interfere with the service
• Enter highly sensitive personal data into the translator when it is not necessary

Translation Storage

To improve speed for all users, translations may be cached and reused. Do not submit confidential or sensitive information you do not want stored.

Intellectual Property

The website, branding, and service are owned by hafnarr. You retain rights to the text you submit. You grant us a limited license to process, store, and display that text only as needed to operate the service.

Disclaimer

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that translations will be accurate, complete, or uninterrupted.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, hafnarr will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on translations or service interruptions.

Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if needed to protect the service or other users. Premium access ends when a subscription is canceled or expires.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law in the jurisdiction where hafnarr operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
